Standard Operating Procedures for Wool Harvesting.
Standards have been set for all aspects of the WHS to provide farmers and the wool industry with reliable predictable output from shearing and clip preparation.
The WHS is designed to provide a standard way of delivering shearing services, to enable improvement in de-fleecing sheep, and to be able to warrant the preparation of the clip. Achievement of both these goals was acknowledged in the AWI Evaluation of Shear Express Wool Harvesting Report (Dec-03).
The fully self-contained mobile WHS provides farmers with a standardized wool harvest structure. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for every task and process in the WHS and service delivery guarantees reliable predictable service delivery.
The sequential nature of the system, use of specialized shearing equipment, standard blow patterns for de-fleecing, production control of fleece separation and electronic sheep / fleece tracking and recording on the Data Acquisition and Management System (DAMS) enables Shear Express to be able to control all aspects of its operations, and warrant the standard of clip preparation.
Standardization in the Shear Express WHS removes farmer’s anxiety and gives confidence in the quality of services they can enjoy.
Reliable standardization and the ability to warrant clip preparation in the WHS opens new marketing options for Wool Brokers and Marketers.
