Shear Express - In Detail
The Wool Harvesting machine is a fully self contained “chain shearing/sequential shearing” system comprising:
- a self powered transformer B-double trailers that folds out into an environmentally controlled shearing shed and wool room.
- a lead-up ramp and lifter for sheep to enter the machine.
- preparation stages for stain and skirtings removal, and sheep weighing.
- a staged conveyor along which the sheep is sequentially de-fleeced.
- a fleece conveyor to deliver and spread the fleece onto the classing table.
- a touch screen computer recording sheep, fleece, clip and machine data.
- a sheep let out conveyor with sheep scales and capacity for sheep husbandry activities, and exit auto-draft.
- in addition, a temporary sheep storage with the capacity to dry wet sheep prior to de-fleecing.
The criteria for design is that a commercial wool harvesting machine must be simple to operate and maintain, work efficiently, be durable and afford better use of capital to the wool industry.
To achieve this the engineering design uses off the shelf parts and proven designs. Proprietary components are minimal, and as simple and durable as practical. Systems are intuitive and able to be safely operated.
The wool harvesting machine is designed to replace a 4 to 6 stand shearing team of 8 to 12 members.
The machine’s 11 workers include,
- 7 harvesters (de-fleecing operatives)
- a classer
- 2 harvest staff (rouseabouts) and
- a team manager / machine operator (a shed expert).
All stand and sequentially de-fleece sheep moving along a conveyor without manually handling the sheep or fleece from pen to bale.
The industry ideal standard of “Stain Free Procedure” clip preparation has been designed into the system.
